Our aim is for the Health Action Resource Platform to be the go-to place for what to do if you want to tackle ethnic health inequalities, displaying data in a way that is easy to understand whilst sharing examples of replicable practice for organisations to adopt. We hope that the data will act as a provocation, motivating and empowering people to act on health inequalities and encouraging collaborative and innovative solutions.
The website is open for all to use, from health and care organizations and staff, the public, policy leads, research organisations, and the media.
Activity data has been sourced where possible from Secondary Uses Service (SUS). This is the central, comprehensive repository for healthcare activity data in England and is currently hosted by NHSE. To facilitate the calculation of rates across diverse geographical areas and ethnic groups, national ethnicity population data, aggregated at the commissioner/ICB level, has been incorporated. This population data is collated by UK Health Facts & Dimensions and is subject to a quarterly refresh cycle. Our data was processed by commissioning support unit, Arden & GEM Health and Social Care Systems support.
Instructions on how to interpret the data are provided above each visualization. You can also find a static image explainer here How to Interpret Visualizations. An explainer video will be available soon

Several important data challenges and limitations exist for the NHS and therefore the RHO Health Action Resource Platform. Data quality around ethnicity recording in the NHS is variable, with significant gaps, inaccurate or conflicting information in national datasets. There is urgent need to improve the quality and consistency of data, and NHS England has asked all NHS organisations to proactively review and ensure the completeness of patient ethnicity data.
